Today's show begins and ends with two distinctive and legendary voices. Smokey Robinson, appearing with the vocal group Human Nature, needs no introduction: The legendary Motown vocalist's name speaks for itself. And the 7 Worlds Collide track closing the episode features vocals by Neil Finn, whose solo work and recordings with Crowded House had a tremendous mark on alternative rock.

Tracks 1, 9, 11 and 15 are courtesy of Mood Indigo Entertainment, which put me in the frankly cruel position of having to choose just one track from most of the albums represented. Tracks 6-7 and 13 come via the IODA Promonet and may be downloaded at the Blogger site for as long as their promotions remain in effect; tracks 4-5 and 10 come courtesy are FlipSwitch PR; and the remainder are courtesy of Ariel Publicity.

The 7 Worlds Collide track comes from a double album featuring some other big names in alternative rock, alt-country and the like: Besides brothers Neil and Liam Finn, it also includes former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, four members of Wilco, singer-songwriters K.T. Tunstall and Lisa Germano, and others.

Neil Finn and some friends did a 2001 live album under the name, largely comprised of previously released material from their respective backgrounds -- Eddie Vedder was on that recording -- and this year (joined by the Wilco cats and others) released the studio album of all-new material as a fundraiser for the charitable efforts of Oxfam International.
